When life hands you lemons…

As the weather warms, my tastes in the kitchen change. Instead of wanting pumpkin bread, I crave blueberry muffins slathered with butter. Instead of meatloaf, I wish for chicken salad. One of these seasonal cravings I have is for lemonade. And I’m not talking about the high-fructose corn syrup, made from a bright yellow powder kind. This lemonade is so delicious–and it’s also beautiful to look at!

You need:

1 and 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup very hot water
The juice from 6 lemons
1 sliced lemon
1 sliced orange
2 sliced strawberries

In a 2 quart pitcher, combine the hot water with the sugar, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Roll the lemons briskly and firmly on the counter. Slice them width ways and squeeze, getting out as much juice as possible. Add to the pitcher, and stir. Fill pitcher the rest of the way with water.  Stir very well. Add the sliced fruit to the lemonade. Store in fridge.
